Hazelnut Story Map

Universities, agencies, organizations, businesses and growers are partnering to study and build a hazelnut industry in the Upper Midwest. The budding industry needs investment in infrastructure, genetics and propagation, best management practices, harvesting, value-added processing, marketing and promotion, and it needs to be a profitable enterprise for producers. But among a growing group, optimism abounds.

CIAS and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) created a story map about the effort to commercialize the American Hazelnut. This story map illustrates:

    • The history of the American Hazelnut
    • Supply issues
    • Cultivar selection
    • Mechanization
    • Product Development
    • Environmental and health benefits of hazelnuts
