This year’s Agroecology Symposium is Wednesday, April 12 from 9-5pm at the Great Hall in the Memorial Union.
Dr. Ernesto Mendez, University of Vermont will open the session on “Advancing a Transformative Agroecology at the Community and Institutional Levels“. His talk with be followed by several in the CIAS community. Practitioners: Marie Raboin (Brix Cidery, NRCS), Dick Cates (Cates Family Farm), Yusuf Bin-Rella (TradeRoots), Sarah Karlson (Rooted), Paul Huber (Troy Farm) will respond and comment on food systems transformation.
After lunch, Dr. Loka Ashwood from the University of Kentucky will discuss “Ending the Enclosure of the Enclosed: How to Disrupt Dispossession in Farm Country Today“, followed by faculty panelists, all affiliated with CIAS: Dr. Randy Jackson (Dept. of Agronomy), Dr. Claudio Gratton (Dept. of Entomology), and Dan Cornelius (Oneida, Great Lakes Indigenous Law Center – University of Wisconsin Law School).
Dr. Mary Hendrickson, University of Missouri, will conclude the program with “Agroecology and Corporate Power: Learning from Past Agri-Food Movements“.
